September 9, 2014 with the presence of the honorable President of the Republic of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernandez Alvarado, top executives of the leading outsourcing companies, executives of Unitec-Laureate International Universities, and distinguished guests marked the start of construction of ALTIA Smart City – Tegucigalpa.
The smart city concept developed by Grupo Karims is composed of several elements that complement each other, creating synergies and increasing productivity and competitiveness. Within these elements are:
Altia Technology Park- A technological and business park is the cornerstone in the country’s strategy to attract investment from outsourcing of services, technology sectors and multinational corporations looking to set up their corporate offices.
REC-ZEN – the concept of a recreational and leisure area to stimulate the creativity of those who work in Altia Technology Park.
University Campus: the formation of human capital with bilingual capacity and expertise in technology is essential. Unitec being the most prestigious University in the country is the strategic partner for this model.
Altara – lifestyle center, a commercial area designed to meet all the needs of the community, including financial services, food court, gym, supermarket, among other amenities
Altia Medical Center- a hospital with the best technology and systems for medical attention for both national and international health needs.
Diplomatic Zone: Infrastructure and office spaces created to meet the needs of the diplomatic community and international organizations that have operations in Tegucigalpa.
The smart city concept has been developed under the guidelines of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, redundant power and communication systems, large spaces for recreation for those who work at Altia Smart City, that way each element contributes to the development of a unique business model in the country and the entire region.
Once completed, Altia Smart City in Tegucigalpa will create between 8-10 thousand jobs. In its construction phase, Altia will generate approximately 1,500 direct jobs and more than 5,000 indirect jobs. This is a 100% Honduran capital investment, which will be developed in several phases. In its initial phase, the construction of its first tower and a recreational center Rec-Zen with a total area of 129,120 ft2 that will be completed in the next two years.
The project includes in its entirety a construction area of more than 1,291,200 ft2 with an estimated investment of over 100 million dollars.
